- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of the operation and management of institutional care, including intensive and highly specialized care, their links to the information network in health care facilities, operational and professional indicators. To enable the students acquiring knowledge and skills in the field of management, personal development of a manager, specific managerial skills and other scientific fields influencing the manager's role in the management of institutional care. To motivate students to support the implementation of the necessary system changes in institutional care facilities and to seek new ways of improving the quality of services provided.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the subject, students will have and will be able to:
• Have basic knowledge of running an institutional care management
• Know the management methods used in different clinical workplaces
• To explain the benefits of the effectiveness and quality of health records at individual workplaces
• To gain basic knowledge of individual departments in practice
• Will Understand the complexity and determinants of health and healthcare systems
• Will Understand management, the role of the manager in healthcare and understanding how organisations work
• Be able to manage resources – effectively managing people, finance and organisations
• Be able to manage across boundaries – evaluating how services can best be configured and delivered
• Be able to perform Team work effectively and manage multi-disciplinary teams
• Will possess leadership, personal and professional learning and self - development skills
• Will develop knowledge and skills to evaluate the quality of health services
• Be able to apply a critical and analytical approach to principles and practices of Health Services - Syllabus
- • Operation and management of institutional care, structure of institutional care institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad.
- • The nature of ownership of institutional care institutions, cooperation with health insurance companies, and state and local authorities.
- • Management models and methods used at various institutional care facilities in the Czech Republic and abroad.
- • Design and implement a suitable strategy using a wide range of tools (external environment and assessment of the internal strengths and weaknesses of institutional care organizations).
- • Leadership approaches and preferred leadership style. Human resources management for institutional care.
- • Professional and economic ties of institutional care institutions, patient reception, translation, provision of emergency services, etc.
- • Preparation and interpretation of the budget for institutional care organization, cash flow forecasting, and cost budgeting.
- • Operational and professional indicators of institutional care and their importance for the effective management of institutional care.
- • Collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of valid and reliable data as a basis for evidence-based management practice.
- • Maintaining and improving quality in institutional care organizations as a prerequisite for maximizing patient safety and quality.

- Teaching methods
- Seminars are using various case studies and other resources. The seminar will allow students to extend their understanding of the issue while developing analytical, presentation skills and managing their own performance. Self-study (Preparation for seminars) is a prerequisite for participation in the seminars.
