- Course objectives
- At the end of the course will recognize selected drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum with the particular attention paid to pharmacotherapy of diabetes mellitus. Student should be able to use medicinal herbs based on acquired basic knowledge in the field of phytotherapy.
- Syllabus
- 1. Analgesic drugs. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
- 2. Pharmacotherapy of endocrine system diseases. Glucocorticoids, mechanism of action.
- 3. Pathophysiology and therapy of diabetes mellitus. Insulines. Peroral antidiabetic drugs.
- 4. Therapy of hyperlipoproteinemia and obesity. Parenteral nutrition.
- 5. Xenobiotics in nutritional chains - antibiotics, pesticides, fertilisers etc.
- 6. Pharmacotherapy of cancer.
- 7. Multiple-choice revision test. Credit.

- Teaching methods
- In practicals students are provided with a pharmacology teacher presentation with presentations of video-programmes related to the topic stated in curriculum followed by discussion. Students will take part of the guided excursion into the Masaryk University Center of Medicinal Plants with practical preparation and tasting of medicinal teas.
- Assessment methods
- The students have to prove the active knowledge of pharmacology. The students have to pass the final multiple-choice written revision test to get the credit. The students have to pass the final written multiple-choice test, in which students are asked to answer to multiple-choice questions (only 1 correct answer is possible to each question). The test contains 20 questions generated randomly for each single student. One point is granted for each correctly answered question. 0.5 point will be distracted for an incorrect answer to the multiple-choice question. The summary score obtained is evaluated. A criterion for receiving credits is the summary score higher or equal to the 50% points of the maximum score obtained.
