Course objectives
Basic aspects of midwifery in primary health care are introduced. It is a fundamental profile subject in a field of midwifery education. Midwives are taught what to do in prenatal stage of physiology and pathology pregnancy wit cooperation with a doctor, in a consulting room for newborns and babies, work in pre-birth course, care for women and their families in a periods of childbed. It covers primary, secondary and tertiary prevention and education in a field of reproduction health. Students are familiarised with importance of community care – specifics of nursing care provided at client’s home, including visit servis. Problems of partner relationships, social environment and home birth risk are resolved. Excursions and trainee-ships in various private and state owned, out as well as in patient institutions are offered. Students are taught to assess environment where people live, discover risks and propose solution to their elimination. Learning outcomes - student will be able to: - take care of pregnant woman - under a supervision (including diagnosis of pregnancy and abnormalities detection); - take care of newborn and baby - under a supervision; - prepare and lead of courses in pre-birth stage; - educate client and her family in a field of reproduction health; - assess woman in childbed and newborn in home environment (visit servis);
Syllabus
  • Subject matter: - history of primary care for mother and child in our country and world-wide; - philosophy of primary care for mother and child in our country and world-wide; - activities of midwives in primary and community nursing provided to pregnant woman (objectives of prenatal caring, consulting room for pregnant women, pregnancy card, expected term of childbirth, basic examination, changes in woman’s body, psychical adaptation on pregnancy, healthy life style education); - activities during beginning of home birth; - activities during home childbed, breast feeding support and guidance; - community education;
