- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to describe and explain terms related to body systems (namely integumentary, urinary, endocrine, reproductive, and nervous systems), their organs, functions and disorders; use practical medical vocabulary typical of their field of studies; apply medical language in communication with patients, doctors and colleagues, interpret medical texts, present and discuss specialized topics; use grammatical structures typical of medical language.

- The above mentioned topics will be consolidated using all the study skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Supplementary materials used in the seminars (hard copies, electronic documents etc.) will be provided by the lecturer. The course takes the form of seminars. Attendance is compulsory. Two absences are tolerated provided a letter of excuse is handed in at the Department of Studies. It is highly recommended to make up for the absence in the same week. Assessment is based on the results of the final examination (testing the knowledge from the autumn and spring semesters) and attendance. The examination consists of two parts, written and oral. The prerequisite of the written part is a presentation on a medical topic in the semestr. The prerequisite of the oral part is to reach a minimal score of 60 per cent in the written part of the examination.

Information on completion of the course: Studenti se státní jazykovou zkouškou, příp. jejím ekvivalentem (TOEFL, FCE apod.) mohou vykonat zkoušku kdykoliv během semestru.
