Course objectives
Subject Refraction of the eye provides students with the knowledge needed to perfect orientation in the field of refractive errors of the eye and in all circumstances related to them. It immediately follows courses geometrical optics, instrumental optics and spectacle optics. In practice, students verify the acquired knowledge in exercises in the exam and optical laboratory at the Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno and ophthalmology departments or clinics. The aims are the comprehensive knowledge in the area of refractive errors of the eye and all circumstances related to them, including examination of refractive errors and their correction.
Syllabus
  • Anisometropia: sight in anisometropia and its therapy • Aphakia: etiology and patology of the aphakia, optic characteristics and therapy • Anizeikonia: etiology, kinds and symptoms, examination and therapy • Refraction changes. • Physiologic changes, pathologic chnages: dynamic – after injuries, toxic –by glaucoma, inflammations, cataract and diabetes • Accomodation • Characteristics. Mechanism. Physical and physiologic accomodation- Limits and range of accomodation. Phenomena associated with accomodation and tiredness of accomodation. Pathologic sort sof accomodation • Convergence. • Anatomic and physiologic conditions of convergence. Volitive and reflectoric convergence. Relationship between accomodation and convergence. • Presbyopia. Characteristics of presbyopia. Changes of accomodation connected with age. Therapy – correction.
