Course objectives
The course gives an introduction to health care ethics, with specific regard to midwifery. The aim of the course is: to provide a general introduction to health care ethics and to ethics in midwifery in particular; to give information about moral dilemmas in current health care; to learn how to prevent problems respecting ethical professional standards.

  • Introduction to health care ethics (terminology, methods, history) • Personal ethics and professional relationship • Patients‘ rights - obligations of health care providers • Theory and practice of informed consent • Ethics of communication in midwifery • Health care records and personal data protection • Transplantation ethics • Ethics in assisted reproduction • Prenatal and preimplantation diagnostics, genetic screening • End of life decisions • Ethics in biomedical research
