Course objectives
Students learn to use the theoretical knowledge from the orthoptic and pleoptic studies in practically at orthoptic department. Each student works under supervising of a orthoptist supervised by strabologist. The aim of the practice is to get independence during the performing of orthoptic - pleoptic exercises which are part of treatment of amblyopia and strabism in children. Contents of practice is also practical training in strabological clinic and operating room during strabismus surgery.

  • History of the treatment of strabism
  • Anamnesis
  • Examination of visual acuity and refraction
  • Examination of the position of the eyes and their motility
  • Range measurement of slinging deviation
  • Examination of SBV
  • Examination of retinal correspondence
  • Heterophrias (division, examination, treatment)
  • Treatment of concomitant strabismus (correction of refractive errors, pleoptics, surgical treatment, orthoptics)
  • Paralytic strabismus (division, examination, treatment)
  • Secondary strabismus, retinopathy of prematurity
  • Prisms in ortoptics
  • Nystagmus
  • Nurse's work at an orthoptic ambulatory
  • Detection and dispensarisation of strabism
