Awareness of Clinical Radiation Techniques. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Radiology Assistant (programme LF, B-SZ)
- Course objectives
- The course aims to teach students to apply ionizing radiation in all areas of human therapy. Learn how to plan this therapy to choose the optimal application technique. The practical part is under the supervision of an authorized radiologist assistant with appropriate education.
- Learning outcomes
- • gain theoretical and practical skills • shaping the right habits of department work • respecting all legal provisions and safety and health at work • Can maintain confidential medical information
- Syllabus
- 1. Use of clinical dosimetry - methods, meaning, design, personal protection 2. Radiotherapy planning - medical documentation, radiation protocol, radiological simulation, RT simulator, CT simulator, planning CT and MR examinations, determination of irradiation position, markings, irradiated fields and tattoos, photographic and X-ray documentation, fabrication. Radiotherapy Planning in 2D, 3D and 4D, Isodoscopic Plans Using Radiation Passage Modification - Wedges, Individual Blinds and Their Making. Irradiation techniques, fractionation modes. Calculations of simpler irradiation by hand and use of computer technology. 3. X-ray irradiators - devices and their operation, work safety. Current status and possibilities of X-ray and surface radiation, indications, apparatus construction, tubes, radiation reproduction and patient settings. Keeping documentation, instructions for patients, treatment of acute and chronic changes after irradiation. 4. Megavolt irradiators - radionuclide (cesium, cobalt) and accelerators. The composition and operation of individual instruments, safety regulations and statutory provisions. Patient settings including fixation aids, reproduction of irradiation conditions, documentation management, use of wedges, blocks and boluses. Static and movement irradiation, isocentric. Ensuring patient co-operation, communicating with patients, including instructions for dealing with acute and chronic overdose changes. 5. Brachyradiotherapy - planning, use, methods of introducing radiators. Documentation management, X-ray snapshot. Afterloading techniques, preparation before application. The most common BRT indications. Safety Regulations, Emergency Plan, and Operating Regulations. 6. Verification of radiation - in vivo dosimetric verification, images on the BEV and DRR correlation irradiation, portal imaging. Modern radiotherapy techniques - IMRT, IGRT, stereotactic irradiation, TBI, hadron therapy.
