Course objectives
The subject is created as a theoretical unit. Students will acquire the theoretical knowledge that they will use in the care of patients in the pediatric intensive care units. These knowledges are necessary for provided of nursing care in patients with basic life functions failure. Theoretical and practical knowledge of basic and advanced resuscitation is part of the course. Education in intensive medicine includes the causes, diagnosis and treatment of the most common critical life-threatening conditions in pediatrics. Also It includes the theoretical teaching of pediatric perioperative care in critically ill children.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the subject a student will be able to:
- to identify a critically ill child;
- to know priority of providing care a critically ill child;
- to explain and use different ways of resuscitation of children and newborns;
- to define and describe important aspects of perioperative care in children and neonates;
- to describe important aspects in the care of traumatic patients in the pediatric intensive care unit;
- to know the priority of arrange both inter-hospital and intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients;
- to define and describe the specifics of care for children with congenital hereditary disease in intensive care;

  • Hereditary disorders in pediatric intensive care.
  • Providing transport for critically ill children.
  • Preoperative, perioperative and postoperative care in children from pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Perioperative and intensive care for premature newborns.
  • Trauma, polytrauma, craniocerebral trauma and burns in pediatric intensive care.
