The main aim of the course Czech for Foreigners is to teach students communicate with patients in Czech without any help of English speaking doctors or interpreters and independently write case history. Second year students can understand basic vocabulary and phrases related to their immediate specific surrounding, such as personal information, information about their studies and jobs. Students are also able to understand the meaning of short, simple notes and messages, read short, simple texts, find specific information in simple materials, and understand short, simple personal letters. Students can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. Students can use a series of phrases to describe in simple terms their family, educational background and their job. Students can write short, simple notes and messages related to matters in areas of their immediate needs and very simple letters.

Course objectives
The aim of the tuition is working knowledge of the Czech language on the A2 level of the "Common European Framework of Reference" (CEFR) checked by an examination. Czech for foreigners IV help foreign medical students to communicate with Czech patients and medical staff.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- take the patient’s medical history,
- talk about technology and communication,
- talk about personality,
- describe clothing,
- describe clothing and some dentistry tools,
- explain the usage of some dentistry tools.

  • Week 1: Revision. Dentistry: Basic communication in the dental office.
  • Week 2: Revision of declension. UNIT 15. Conversation: Technology and communication. Dentistry: Basic communication in the dental office.
  • Week 3: PROGRESS TEST 1. UNIT 15. Conversation: Technology and communication.
  • Week 4: UNIT 13. Conditional (“by”-structures). Dentistry: Patient history.
  • Week 5: UNIT 13. "Měl bys"-structures. Dentistry: Adjectives.
  • Week 6: PROGRESS TEST 2 (oral) Dentistry: Communication in the dental office.
  • Week 7: UNIT 13. Conversation: Personality adjectives. Dentistry: Communication in the dental office.
  • Week 8: UNIT 16. Conversation: Clothing. Dentistry: Phrases with prepositions.
  • Week 9: UNIT 16. Dative object-centred expressions. Dentistry: Patient history. Clothing and tools.
  • Week 10: PROGRESS TEST 3. UNIT 17. Instrumental singular. Conversation: Flat and furniture.
  • Week 11: UNIT 17. Instrumental singular. Dentistry: Tools.
  • Week 12: PROGRESS TEST 4 (oral). Instrumental singular.
  • Week 13: Dentistry: Tools II. Revision.
