- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to: to understand physical (thermodynamic) principles of some physiological processes (blood circulation, respiration, origin of memebrane potentials; to understand principles of selected diagnostic devices used in general medicine; to recognize possible risks connected with their use; to understand the effects of ionising radiation on living matter
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of course students will be able: to measure some basic biophysical quantities in correct way; to understand physical (thermodynamic) principles of some physiological processes (blood circulation, respiration, origin of memebrane potentials; to understand principles of selected diagnostic devices used in general medicine; to recognize possible risks connected with their use; to understand the effects of ionising radiation on living matter
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction. Biophysical view on the structure of matter. 2. Biological effects of ionizing radiation. 3. Thermodynamic principles and entropy. 4. Thermodynamic processes in living organisms. 5. Introduction on molecular biophysics. 6. Biophysics of biological membranes. Bioelectric phenomena. 7. Biophysics of cardiovascular system. 8. Biophysics of respiratory system. 9. Conventional X-ray imaging methods. 10. Modern tomographic methods (CT, MRI). 11. Ultrasound imaging methods.
