Course objectives
Prepare a general nurse to provide highly specialized nursing care patients in critical situations. After obtaining the theoretical knowledge, prepare a nurse to practice a highly specialized nursing care for a patient over the age of 10 who is at risk of failing or who is at risk, and to assess the skills of these exercises. The student will engage in the care of patients in the course of their practice in accordance with Decree No. 55/2011 Coll. in the field of general nursing with specialized competence - nurse for intensive care. Prepare a general nurse to provide highly specialized nursing care in selected clinical disciplines and to use the available technical equipment, aids and pharmacological products in intensive medicine.
Learning outcomes
Students will:  be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe neurological health impairment;  Be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe respiratory distress;  Be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe cardiovascular disease; - to be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severely impaired uropoetic system; - to be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with acute complications of diabetes mellitus and endocrine system;  Be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe haematological disease; - able to recognize disorders of metabolism and the internal environment; including complications and to participate in their solution;  Be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe GIT disabilities; - to be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with severe chest and thoracic disorders; - be able to recognize basic heart rhythm disturbances in the ECG record; - know the basics of highly specialized nursing care for patients with severe health disabilities in gynecology and obstetrics and participate in its provision; - to be able to explain the principles and provide highly specialized nursing care to patients with a serious infectious disease; - orientation in pharmacological agents used in intensive care medicine; knows their indications and effects.  male bladder catheterization; - recognize basic cardiac rhythm disturbances in the ECG record; - complex high-level nursing care for patients requiring UPV including risks; complications associated with them and involved in their solution;  communication with the patient on the UPV; - monitor the functionality of special instrumentation for the implementation of the UPV and ensure its permanent readiness;  Provide comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care for a patient with a disorder of consciousness;  Specify individual types of nutrition; apply them critically ill; recognize complications and participate in their solution; - Apply psychological aspects of nursing care in intensive medicine; - communicate with patients in critical condition and their closest ones; - Apply psychological approach and communication techniques in interpersonal relationships; possibilities of caring for their mental health; - the correct application of pharmacological agents used in intensive care medicine and the recognition of side effects, evaluate laboratory values (basic iontogram, urea, creatinine, blood function, coagulation, cardiac enzymes, hepatic function), able to educate the patient, to be able to educate relatives, to prepare a sterile table for aseptic procedures, to assess nutritional status based on laboratory tests, to be able to evaluate the state of consciousness using evaluation methodologies, to be able to prepare devices for central venous entry, to explain the assistance in puncture or chest drainage, to explain the preoperative preparation of the patient, to be able to explain the gastric lavage in a patient with a secured airway.
Syllabus
  • Practice takes place on ICU of internal or surgical type. The student will perform activities on at least the minimum extent: assessment of laboratory values (basic iontogram, urea, creatinine, blood count, coagulation, cardiac enzymes, hepatic function) 5x, education of the patient 3x, education of relatives 2x, preparation of sterile table for aseptic procedures 5x, nutrition assessment based on laboratory examinations 5x, state of consciousness using assessment methodologies 5x, ECG curve analysis 5x, preparation of aids and assistance in providing central venous entry 3x, patient preparation and assistance in puncture or chest drainage 2x, preoperative patient preparation 3x, stomach rinse in patient with airways 2x
