- Course objectives
- The objectives of the subject are to enable students to:
- Integrate health psychology into the context of basic medical education for future health care professionals
- To acquaint students with current trends in mental hygiene and basic methods of maintaining and supporting physical and mental health
- Provide students an understanding of how the mind and body interact and affect health and
- Present the complex outcomes of psychological science and clinical practice at the level of principles that can be applied in the work of a professional in the health care sector, to the benefit of his / her patients, as well as of the whole health teams
- To acquaint students with the basic psychosocial variables that support and maintain mental and physical health
- To introduce students basic psychological and psychotherapeutic methods of coping with life difficulties that can be applied in various contexts and situations of medical practice and personal life
- To make students acquainted with those partial changes of life that are sensitive indicators of the beginning of the chronic phase of stress, exhaustion and loss of meaning life
- To teach students to work with the basics of field theory, holistic approach and model "Connections and Health" / Autoregulation and Allostasis
- To familiarize students with the available programs for health promotion in the workplace as well as in personal life
- To familiarize students with the basic psychological principles necessary for effective self-management, the management of others and the creation of an optimal working environment at both interpersonal and material level - Learning outcomes
- - The student understands why health psychology is important in the context of self-development
- Student understands the interaction approach to stress and the relationship of stress, emotions, health and illness
- Student understands the risks of stress in performing the profession of healthcare professional. Student can identify symptoms of chronic stress and knows the principles of their management and prevention in the process of developing the burnout syndrome
- Student knows the basic psychosocial variables that support and maintain mental and physical health
- Student knows the term Resilience, can describe the components of it and knows how to develop and support this psychological trait in life (coping strategies, locus of control, sense of coherence, hardiness, self-efficacy)
- Student understands the concept of “external and internal self-support system”
- Student knows the basis of "Principle-centered leadership"
- Student understands the relationship of time, stress and responsibility and knows the principles of time management
- Student knows principles of mental hygiene and theoretical background of basic methods for somatic and mental health maintenance (Autogenous training, Mindfulness-based approaches, Relaxation techniques, sport)
- Student understands the model "Connections and Health" / Autoregulation and Allostasis and is able to apply it for their own somatic and mental health support
- Student understands the relationship between stress and risk behaviors (obesity, smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse, other addictive behavior) and knows key methods in the field of its prophylaxis, prevention and treatment
- Student understands the dynamics of intrapsychic interpersonal conflict and is equipped with basic introspective and communication skills to manage these situations - Syllabus
