Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the specifics of nutrition of children in the whole spectrum of age categories including nutrition of the pre-conception period and with emphasis on neonatal nutrition and nutritional screening in paediatrics. Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject will deepen the knowledge and extend the knowledge of clinical nutrition needed to provide specialized nutritional care in children (especially in GIT, specialized nutritional procedures and interventions in pediatric patients with hereditary metabolic disorders and malnutrished children).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: • apply methods of examining the nutritional status of a pediatric patient; • take a nutritional history and evaluate it correctly; • describe the physiology of the metabolism of the child, • evaluate and interpret the results of the nutritional status examination and propose an effective regime of procedures and care, • assess individual energy needs; • determine and calculate the energy requirement in relation to the diagnosis and its effect on the nutritional need of the child patient / client; • describe the diagnosis, prevention, treatment and specialized nutritional procedures of individual diseases, • Describe the differences in making nutritional recommendations in children with cancer and characteristic dietary requirements, • define all available means of enteral nutrition, nutritional support and parenteral nutrition, describe their meaning and possibilities of use in targeted treatment, • compile menus according to nutritional requirements, food choice and technological treatment of meals in individual diseases and the complications associated with them, • use a system of monitoring and repeated monitoring of nutritional status, • create educational materials, educate a child patient and their legal guardian.
