Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to explain the difference between acute and chronic intensive care; clarify the issue of chronic intensive care - the spectrum of patients, staffing, material and technical equipment of the workplace, documentation; Legislation describe the issue; clarify patient needs to separation DIP; explain the issue of home mechanical ventilation and long-term home oxygen therapy, including child care   in   home on oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation; clarify the risk of nosocomial infections in   DIP; properly conduct prevention of nosocomial infections; properly conduct monitoring of vital functions in   DIP and DP; explain the risks and complications of catheterization of men; correctly perform bladder catheterization u ~ men; correctly perform the toilet airway u ~   patient with tracheostomy; properly perform tracheostomy dressing (including complicated tracheostomy); explain the procedures used to   preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia; correctly apply the medication into the airways u ~   patient with tracheostomy; monitor patients on prolonged mechanical ventilation clarify the benefits and contraindications for noninvasive mechanical ventilation; explain the correct procedure for treating subcutaneous ports (including the risks and complications); explain the concept of basal stimulation; incorporate elements of the basal stimulation in nursing. care; use kinaesthetic elements in the implementation of the IP. care; enumerate communication options u ~ patients on long-term mechanical ventilation; perform active and passive rehabilitation in patients   on artificial ventilation; draw up a plan of rehabilitation for the chronically ill  .
Learning outcomes
Student will: - care for the patient in a vigilant coma - Tackle pain relief - Apply psychological approach and communication techniques in interpersonal relationships - Properly apply pharmacological agents used in intensive medicine and recognize their side effects - Apply the concept of stimulating perception in working practices - Perform highly specialized nursing care for patients in vigilant coma, persistent and permanent vegetative state - apply the hygiene regime - use trends in wound healing - Provide comprehensive, highly specialized nursing care for patients requiring UPV including the risks and complications associated with them and to participate in their solution - Communicate with the patient on UPV - Monitor the functionality of the instrumentation technician to perform the UPV and ensure its continued readiness - Perform comprehensive highly specialized nursing care for a patient with a disorder of consciousness - Apply psychological aspects of nursing care in intensive medicine - Tackle pain relief
Syllabus
  • Lecture: Week 1 Department of Chronic intensive care (primary diagnosis, instrumentation, equipment and facilities, staffing, documentation, legislation, needs of the patient in   DIP, goals hospitalization and nursing process). Week 2 home mechanical ventilation (indication DUPV, forms, complications, legislation, project DUPV, Os.   Process of ventilated patients in   DP, oxygen). Week 3 Nasal stimulation, immobilization syndrome, infection prevention (specific hygienic care of the patient   according to the extent of his disability, chronic infections, nosocomial infections, care aids   v ~ DIP, DP). 4th week physiological functions in   DIP, IP. Care   nutrition and excretion in patients   DIP (swallowing training, evaluation tolerance nutrition, catheterization men). Week 5   Rehabilitation in Intensive Care Unit (positioning, passive / active RHB, RHB breathing, spec. RHB u ~ selected diagnoses, verticalization - locomotion, a plan of rehabilitation u ~ chron. Sick, restoring damaged functions, education   sufficiency, utilities, documentation).
