BSKM021c/ZACH: Wed 10. 4. 8:00–11:20 B11/234 - Prerequisites
- Students are supposed to have considerable knowledge of biology, mostly human biology.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- there are 8 fields of study the course is directly associated with, display
- Course objectives
- Students are supposed to understand basicaly the main topics of clinical microbiology and immunology, especially the practical knowledge and practical skills concerning sampling of specimens and all other skills connected with the work of a nurse.
- Learning outcomes
- The courses BSKM021p and BSKM021c are connected. The "c" course represents practical demonstrations to the "p" lecture. That is why learning outcomes are written for both subjects together.
At the end of this course student
* lists medically important microbes, diagnostic methods, decontamination methods and antimicrobial drugs explains use of antimicrobial drugs, lists basic parts of the immunity system and explains their function
* explains the difference between common microbial flora, transient findings, contamination and pathogens in different organ/organ systems (1):
* lists the most common pathogens causing infections of individual organs/organ systems (1)
* explains basic indications of microbiological examination, sampling and transportation of samples for each organ/system (1) infection
* interpretes simple results of microbiology tests on a basic level for infections of individual organs/organ systems (1)
(1) individual organs/organ systems for this purpose are namely:
* different parts of upper and lower respiratory ways, lungs and middle ear
* different parts of gastrointestinal tract
* different parts of urinary tract
* different parts of genital system
* different parts of central and peripherial nervous system
* bloodstream, bones, muscles and various tissues
* skin, eyes, external ear
Student also explains specific problems of microbial infections
* during pregnancy, during birth and in first days after bith (this topic is accented for students of midwivery)
* of in-patients, especially immunocompromised (hospital infections) - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- Practical session with training of the topics from the leture on conrete cases of virtual patients with interactive elements (use of KVIS)
- Assessment methods
- Participation in education: it is possible to have one absence without official excuse + two more officialy excused through the Information system (in case of three-hour blocks of midwives ONE more only). In case of more justified absences (long durating disease etc.) the teacher will set a form of substitution. One condition for credits is also having succesfully (100 %) answered all ROPOT questionaires in the IS MUNI; number of the attempts is not limited. The subject is closely related with BSKM021p. Here the examination is oral. Student takes one pair of 26 pairs of questions (= total 52 questions).
