- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain the principles of the anatomical and functional organization of the nervous system, basics of the clinical neurological examination, neurological topical and syndromological diagnosis. work with information on the structure of the neurological examination, to understand the indication, contraindication and complications of the paraclinical examinations; make reasoned decisions about main groups of neurological disorders: in the childhood and adults (stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, vertebrogenic, neuromuscular disorders, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders, neurotraumas, neuroinfections): theoretical background, current diagnostic procedures and therapy, typical case reports. To interpret clinal and paraclinical correlations.

- Neuron, nerve cell. Principles of the formation and conduction of the excitation. The structure of the central and peripheral nervous system. The function of the cerebral hemispheres. Blood-vessel supply of the brain. Etiology of the ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke. The clinical picture of the ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke. Synapsis and neurotransmitters. Physiology and pathology of the synaptic function. The composition and function of the cerebral cortex. Epilepsy and epileptic syndromes. The structure and function of the basal ganglia. Extrapyramidal disorders. The structure and the function of the cerebellum. Brainstem structures. Cerebellar syndromes. Brainstem syndromes. The composition and function of the spinal cord. Spinal cord syndromes. Disorders of the motor and sensory systems caused by spinal cord lesions. The structure and function of the spine. Vertebrogenic disorders.
