Course objectives
Nutritional epidemiology focuses on the relationship between nutrition and the incidence of disease. The basic starting point is a good deal with the general principles of epidemiological studies, which further develops the specific methodological approaches for the evaluation of the various parameters of the diet and nutrition. The specific result of the use of adequate methodological approaches is then the evaluation of the relationship of nutrition to the risk to the most specific groups of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and more, and the ability to define the relevant risk and protective factors according to the current state of knowledge. In the context of mastering the subject we assume knowledge of all the essential theoretical principles, and also practical mastery of the methodology regarding the individual evaluation of nutrition, in particular, within the meaning of anamnestic methods of evaluating the characteristics of the diet, but also the methods of evaluation of nutritional status.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - Know and practice the nutrition epidemiology methodology - to assess the nutrition-epidemiological relationship between nutrition and health, overall and in individual aspects. - Critically evaluate the relationship between nutrition and health, to know possible errors and causality issues.
