- Course objectives
- Students will
- be introduced to the basic issues of didactics of the English language;
- get acquainted with the fundamentals and importance of self-reflection;
- learn about the roles of the teacher of foreign languages and his/her competences;
- learn about the language system and the basic principles of teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar;
- get to know teaching materials which respect the specifics of different age groups;
- will learn the basic rules and principles of error correction;
- will understand how to use portfolios as a self-reflective tool;
- will learn how to plan and organize a lesson. - Learning outcomes
- Student will:
- explain the basic principles of English language teaching;
- understand the role of a foreign language teacher;
- understand the language system;
- be acquainted with the basic principles of teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar;
- understand how error correction in language teaching works, will be able to recognize the motivational role of correction;
- create a model lesson plan, in which (s)he proves understanding of the basic rules of planning and organizing a lesson
- be able to find appropriate teaching materials including supplementary ones;
- be able to give feedback and positively react to the feedback given by the teacher and other students. - Syllabus

- If a student spends a semester abroad (s)he will: - follow the Moodle course regularly and do the homework - study the recommended chapters - write a journal entry after each topic plus notes from homework - write a reflective paper at the end of the semester - write a sample lesson plan - present the journal at the end of the semester - come for a consultation with the teacher after the study stay.

- Contacting the teacher: If needed, students can contact the teacher during the seminars, by e-mail or arrange a consultation. - Using AI: In the course, the use of AI is permitted for learning but not for cheating. It is acceptable to use AI to brainstorm ideas, perform basic proofreading, and make suggestions for improvement. It is unacceptable to have a text generated, translated, or reformulated. Remember to acknowledge all innovative ideas that are not yours. For generated ideas, use in-text citations. At the end of each assignment, state how you worked/did not work with AI. When you have a doubt, please consult your teacher. - Credit requirements: Upon successful completion of the course, you will earn 3 ECTS credits (2 credits for seminar work and self-study plus 1 credit for the colloquy). Each ECTS credit represents 25 to 30 hours of work. In the seminars, full-time students are expected to spend 26 hours, while combined students will spend 12 hours. The remaining 14– 24 hours for full-time students and 38–48 hours for combined students are allocated for self-study.
