- The goal of the subject is to present global topics and problems that are the content of global development education, which are part of the lifelong educational process. The student will acquire knowledge that can contribute to understanding the differences and similarities between the lives of people in developing and developed countries. It will also include developing students' attitudes, building critical thinking, and expressing their own opinions so that students are able and willing to participate actively in solving local or global problems. The course responds to current trends in geographic education and focuses on selected topics presented from a geographic perspective, as well as understanding the economic, social, political, environmental and cultural processes that influence them.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- collect, sort and critically evaluate information related to global problems;
- name the goals of sustainable development and the global problems associated with them;
- give examples of the consequences of selected global problems (e.g. climate change);
- propose possible measures and solutions to problems on a local as well as a global scale;
- to realize one's own role in the world and evaluate the sustainability of one's actions. - Syllabus

- 4. Climate change: how it affects everyday life
- 5. Fires: experiences from abroad and the Czech Republic
- 6. Drought and how to deal with it: a case study of the Sahel and the Czech Republic
- 7. The ageing population: a case study of South Korea
- 8. (Un)sustainable transport or the journey from Suez to Brno
- 9. Sustainable cities and municipalities
- 10. Affordable and clean energy
- Teaching methods
- Combination of lecture and group work in the classroom or outdoors.
- Assessment methods
- During the semester, the student will actively participate in classes, participate in group work and present the semester task at the end of the semester. The subject will end with a colloquium and a debate on the chosen topic, which the student will put into the context of the local and global scale.
