Course objectives
Based on the knowledge acquired by the student during the study, he will be able to understand and explain the specifics of the 20th century in its political, economic and social contexts. He is able to use the information obtained in the discussion of urgent problems concerning contemporary history. The student will get acquainted with the didactic methodological basis, which will be able to apply in their practice.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
Student je schopen osvojená fakta, jejich souvislosti a výklady aplikovat žákům na základní škole. Posluchač je rovněž seznámen s různými typy edukačních situací při osvojování výkladu moderních dějin tak, aby na ně vhodně dokázal reagovat v dějepisné výuce. Posluchač si osvojí znalosti historických procesů, skutečností a jevů. Bude schopen charakterizovat rysy historického vývoje.

  • 1. The world after the World War II: East and West. 2. Origin, formation and disintegration of the Eastern bloc. 2. Cold War (origin, causes, conference/negotiation and end) and its manifestations (Korean War, Suez Crisis, 30 xeasr war in Indochina, Caribbean Crisis, etc.). 3. Germany: from division to reunification. 4. Decolonization after the World War II and the Non-Aligned Movement. 5. History of European integration. 6. Arab-israel conflict. 7. USSR (key leaders) and foreign policy (USA, France, China...). 8. Western Europe 1945-1989. 9. USA 1945-1989. 10. Near East and Middle East. 11. The Third Czechoslovak Republic. 12. Czechoslovakia after February 1948. 13. Political processes in the 1950s in Czechoslovakia. 14. Prague Spring. 15. Standardization. 16. Czechoslovakia and 1989.

Teaching methods
The teaching combines theoretical preparation (lectures) with practical activities. At the seminars, students are motivated to discuss, especially through video presentations, power-point presentations and document analysis.
Assessment methods
Written exam (70 %), presentation of relevant theme and 80 % of seminar attendance, study of two monographs.
