- At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- understand fundamental knowledge of matter and chemical substances structure,
- understand fundamental relations between chemical substances` structure and their chemical and physical-chemical properties,
- understand fundamental knowledge of chemical bonding and of chemical substances` phase states. - Learning outcomes

- Week 1: The role of chemistry in the science system. Basic chemical laws.
- Week 2: Weight, volume and composition of substances and systems. Solutions.
- Week 3: The nucleus of atom, radioactivity, nuclear reactions.
- Week 4: Models of atom. Electron shell of the atom, atomic orbitals, construction of the electron shell, the formation of ions.
- Week 5: Periodic system of elements.
- Week 6: Wave-mechanistic interpretation of chemical bonds. Covalent bonding, molecular orbitals.
- Week 7: Polyatomic molecules. Localization of bonds. Polarity of bonds. Properties of covalent compounds.
- Week 8: Coordination compounds. Ionic bond. Properties of ionic compounds, electrolytes.
- Week 9: Metals. Weak binding interaction. Hydrogen bonds. Binding in biopolymers, their structure.
- Week 10: States of matter.
- Week 11: Chemical Thermodynamics. Basics of thermochemistry.

- Oral exam following after written test.
Written test: examples on theory and calculations (20 examples in 60 minutes).
The condition of oral exam is to solve at least 14 examples of this written test correctly.
If the students receive at least 80 % points in partial tests in the subject Seminar in General Chemistry, they do not have to do the written test before the oral exam. - Language of instruction
