- Course objectives
- Upon completion of the course the students will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge about the issue of health protection and health promotion in the didactic and practical aspects of education. The students will be able to use the knowledge and skills from the previous study for the purposes of a didactic analysis of the learning content, development of a thematic plan, and for the preparation of appropriate methodological plans according to the content of human health subjects in the 1st stage of elementary schools.
- Learning outcomes
- The students will be able to propose appropriate health promotion measures aimed at younger school-aged children, both curricular and extra-curricular, analyse educational documents and use them to assess school educational programmes and other documents in terms of health promotion, and assess the didactic system. They will be able to develop a thematic plan, and based on a detailed didactic analysis of the learning content of the educational area Man and health prepare and present a section of the learning content. The students will be able to understand the components of a physical activity regimen and will be able to participate in the development of the conditions for appropriate physical activity regimen for students in school and outside school.
- Syllabus
- 1. Man and health – definition of the topic in current educational documents. Methods and possibilities of health education in both curricular and extra-curricular environments. Health education in everyday activities of a teacher in the first stage of elementary schools. Legislation behind health protection and health promotion of children and teachers. 2. Practical application of health education in the school educational programmes and the didactic system (textbooks, workbooks, exercise books, worksheets) for the educational area Man and his world. 3.-10. Didactic transformation of the following topics: Human body, First aid, Health care, Nutrition and health (including cooking), Movement and health, Physical activity regimen, Fundamentals of family and sex education, Habit-forming substances and health, Addictive behaviour, Personal safety, Mass emergency. 11. Current health promotion programmes in the school environment. Minimum preventive programme. Preparation of school and class health promotion projects. 12. Counselling provided by organizations other than schools, counselling and educational centres focused on the issue of human health.

- Seminars: preparation and presentation of the didactic part of the educational area Man and health. At the end of the course a colloquium shall be taken.
