Course objectives
The classic Russian literature includes literature of the 19th century which belongs to the world classic. Lecture cycle and the seminar focus on the basic currents and writers of the period. The most important is understanding and ability to self-criticism and interpretation of works by the most famous authors of Russian prose, poetry and drama.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students understand the periodization of Russian literary development in the 19th century; the specifics of particular currents; they are able to include a specific author whose style they know, into the periodization; they can briefly characterize the specifics of selected works of Russian writers and define their position in the development of Russian-literature.

  • 558/5000 Lecture: 1. Introduction to Russian classical literature. Periodization. Terminology Literary trends in Russian literature of the 18th century and in the early 19th century. Russian classicism, sentimentalism and romanticism.

  • 6.Development of Russian drama.
  • 7.Development of Russian poetry.
  • 8. Creation and work of A. S. Pushkin.

  • 11. Creation and work of F. M. Dostoyevsky.

Teaching methods
The subject is taught in the form of a lecture and seminar.

Assessment methods
Oral exam with the prerequisite of succesful passing of the written part. The content of the written test is given by thematic areas.
