Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop language knowledge and communication skills in Russian, specifically:
– developing the ability to communicate in selected topics;
– developing interaction skills in oral and written expression;
– improving prepared and spontaneous oral expression;
– consolidation of skills and knowledge in phonetics and phonology;
– consolidation and expansion of already known vocabulary.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
– understand read texts and recordings in Russian;
– express themselves on a given topic;
– use the necessary vocabulary in oral and written expression.
Syllabus
  • 1. Leisure: book, music and film genres, their subject matter.
  • 2. Nature: natural phenomena and climatic conditions.
  • 3. Household appliances and their functions.
  • 4. Places to eat. Cooking: recipe and basic operations.
  • 5. East Slavic cuisine.
  • 6. Means and modes of transport in the world.
  • 7. Phraseology: verbs of motion in the figurative sense.
  • 8. Types of holidays and trips. Packing for a trip.
  • 9. Interesting festivals and holidays in the world. We travel by plane.
  • 10. Internet: formal vs. informal speech.
  • 11. Internet: shopping in an e-shop.
  • 12. Revision.

Assessment methods
Oral credit: presentation on a selected topic prepared and presented in pairs (verification of the skill of conducting a prepared monologic speech); group discussion (verification of communication and interaction skills).
