Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen the methodological knowledge of PhD students in the field of research and interpretation of social pedagogical phenomena and to strengthen their independent methodological thinking through qualitative and quantitative methods.
Learning outcomes
PhD students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of various qualitative and quantitative methods for data collection and subsequent analysis in the pedagogical field (examples of possible use, advantages and disadvantages);
deepen knowledge in scientific paradigms;
project qualitative and quantitative research designs according to the assignment.
Syllabus
  • Recapitulation and extension of methodological knowledge and skills in the following topics:
    Thematic areas of consultations and independent study
    The relationship between methodology and pedagogy
    Methodology and research of pedagogical reality (difference between natural and individual reality). Methodological means and goals of knowledge (epistéme, techné, doxa). Experience and empirical methods. Qualitative and quantitative methods. Reality and theory, models of social reality. Questions of causality and scientific law. Metrics, educometrics, sociometrics. Inductive and deductive models. Schematization and reconstruction in methodology. Methodological issues of scientific communication and interpretation. Logical elements in methodology, definitions and logical statements, forms of logical reasoning and drawing conclusions. Description and technical language, prediction and explanation.
    Paradigms in methodology as a social phenomenon
    Changes in the scientific paradigm: positivism (social positivism), Darwinism (social Darwinism), behaviorism, pragmatism, existentialism, Marxism, socialism, systemic (structural) models, realism, empiricism, phenomenology, etc. Paradigm in the methodology of pedagogy. Methodological importance of social and educational realities. Education and learning as a research paradigm (social and individual reality). Social action and decision making. Changes in social reality and individual behavior. Socialization and the degree of adaptation of people. Differences in Social Adjustment and Sociometrics - Datasets. Cultural differences and aspects of methodology.
