- The course Analysis of theories of social pedagogy introduces social theories applied to social education phenomena. The basic outline of the course creates the system view of presented theories accompanied by culture social factors, pedagogical conceptions and education theories. The aim is to emphasize the importance of multi-factor approach to social phenomena to describe them as well as to explain it in educational reality but also social educator ´s reality.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to prepare students for the creation of a diploma thesis, especially in the theoretical level. The course is theoretically oriented. The content of the course forms the basis for the final state examination in the field of Pedagogy. The subject is specific in its concept, where it explains the educational reality in the context of the life of socially disadvantaged groups. The starting point of the course is a description of behavioral theories and critical theories.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able to: • define basic terminology and topics related to the discipline, • explain specific phenomena and social events in social context, • apply social theories to context of Czech society, • analyse social education phenomena, • suggest solutions to problem cases of social education reality.
- Syllabus
- 1. Position of social science in context of science paradigm (Winch, Fay). Science revolution structure (Kuhn). 2. Social theories and their application in education phenomena. Pedagogy as non-science (Brezinka). Contemporary theory of education (Bertrand). Liessmann´s theory. Post-modern pedagogy. Theory of educational (cultural, social) reproduction, cultural capital, habitus (Bourdieu). 3. Theory of modernity and social system theory (Luhmann). Globalization (Giddens, Beck) and hyperculture (Lipovetsky, Juvin). 4. Constructionism (Gergen), social construction of reality (Berger, Luckmann). Social reserve and distribution, everyday knowledge. 5. Critical theories (Marcuse, Horkheimer), theory of power, institutionalism, oppression and supremacy (Walzer), power and bio power (Foucault), social and critical hermeneutics (Kögler). 6. Poststructuralism (de Saussure), turn to language, dispositive, discourse analysis and archaeology of knowledge (Foucault), speech act theory (Austin, Searle). 7. Social theory of media (Thompson), critical reading, writing, thinking. Theory of mass communication (McQuail). Dimension of social change (Meyrowitz). 8. Post-feminism and theory of performativity (Butler), gender, essentialism, sexual revolution, changes of intimacy. Young´s theory. 9. Theory of social justice (Rawls), theory of equal access and social inequality. Discourse democracy (Habermas). Social exclusion and inclusion. 10. Pragmatism by J. Dewey, pragmatic enactivism by G. H. Mead.

Students have to obtain at least a minimum number of points (ie 14 out of 23 possible points) in the written exam, thus passing the subject at the colloquium level.
