- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the organization of education of pupils with impaired communication ability, with the system of support from school counseling servicies; to introduce students to particular forms of impaired communication ability and special educational needs of a pupil with these difficulties in the context of the educational process.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will acquire professional terminology related to forms of impaired communication skills in the context of the educational process, get acquainted with the possibilities of supporting students with these difficulties. They will practically get acquainted with the possibilities of developing students' communication skills as well as with the use of alternative and augmentative communication means.
- Syllabus
- Definition of the field of speech therapy - definition of basic terminology and context. Speech therapist and his assistant. Communication, communication skills, communication process. The importance of communication in human life. Stages of the communication process. The system of care for people with impaired communication skills in the Czech Republic. Current legislation in the provision of speech therapy intervention. Interdisciplinary cooperation in the context of supporting a pupil with impaired communication skills. Speech and language development as a starting point for mastering school skills - phases of development. Development of communication skills in the context of the demands of school attendance and the acquisition of school skills. Disorders of speech articulation - dyslalia and dysarthria. Definition of terms, symptomatology, support of a pupil with these forms of impaired communication ability. Disruption of speech fluency - stuttering and stammering. Definition of terms, symptomatology, support of a pupil with these forms of impaired communication skills. Speech sound disturbance - rhinolalia and palatolalia. Definition of terms, symptomatology, support of a pupil with these forms of impaired communication skills. Acquired forms of impaired communication skills of various etiologies - mutism, aphasia. Definition of terms, symptomatology, support of a pupil with these forms of impaired communication skills. Communication of pupils with specific learning disabilities - definition of the term, specifics of pupil communication with these difficulties and his support. Voice disorders - definition of terms, issues of voice hygiene. Secondary communication disorders in pupils with special educational needs, approaches to support and development of communication skills. Alternative and augmentative communication - definition of terminology, communication systems applied in our practice; possibilities of using AAC systems in the stimulation of communication skills. The role of a teacher's assistant in the educational process of a pupil with impaired communication skills. Documentation - Report and Recommendations - structure, terminology.
