- Prerequisites
- The course builds on the courses taken during the Bachelor's degree.
Students are expected to have a basic understanding of physical and human geography and be familiar with the fundamentals of pedagogy.
The course includes preparation of learners for teacher certification. To be successful, students must demonstrate the ability to incorporate the use of geographic information and resources, elements of outdoor education, and interactive teaching applications into the teaching of regional geography.
Students are expected to provide their own materials (office supplies, necessary software, atlas, etc.). - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce to students in an active way:
a) opportunities for teaching regional geography,
b) topics that can be considered relevant for teaching geography at primary and secondary schools,
(c) effective teaching strategies that can be used in teaching regional geography in primary and secondary schools. - Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, the student will:
Describe and discuss new approaches in teaching regional geography.
Use examples to illustrate how planning, implementing and reflecting on the teaching of regional geography in secondary school can be approached.
Use selected topics in the regional geography of Europe, describe and justify the objectives, structure, teaching activities and their assessment.
Locate, collect, organise and evaluate geographical information and data sources.
Present and defend a coursework (according to a given structure).
Collaborate, communicate and present in a team. - Syllabus

- Lectures.
Developing a group presentation on the assigned region, submitting it on time and defending it in the seminar discussion.
Developing an essay on an approach to teaching regional geography.
Developing an individual 1hour lesson plan on the assigned topic. - Assessment methods
- Three parts of the course must be completed to successfully complete the course:
- Group presentation and individual lesson plan (40% of the grade);
- Written test: application of acquired knowledge (40% of the assessment)
- Local knowledge and orientation (including contour map) (20 % of the assessment)
In total it is neccessary to get more than 50 % of points.
The locational knowledge the questions will be based on selected chapters of the publication Anděl, H., Bičík, I. Bláha, J. D. (2019). Macroregions of the World/New Regional Geography. Karolinum.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of the content of the publication is expected, as subject knowledge is a necessary condition (and not necessarily sufficient) for successful mastery of geography education. - Language of instruction
