Course objectives
The goal of the subject is to get acquainted with basic concepts and theories of general psychology and psychology of personality. At the end of the course the student will be able to understand the issues of the structure and dynamics of personality and will be able to explain particular components of personality, its motivation and the ways to stimulate its development. At the end of the course the student will also be able to read common psychological text for teachers and to understand them creatively. The student should also be able to differentiate the findings of academic psychology from general popular psychological findings.
Syllabus
  • Subject matter of psychology and its evolution. Biological, social and cultural conditionality of psyche. Psychology of personality as a theoretical and practical field of psychology. Psychology of personality within the system of science. Personality – concept, definition, structure and dynamics. Consciousness and cognitive processes: sensation, perception, imagination, fantasy. Attention, memory, learning. Thinking and speech. Capabilities, intelligence. Creativity. Emotions, temperament. Motivation, needs, interests, values. Character, volition, decision making, stress, resistance to heavy-load situations. How to exploit the knowledge of psychology.
