Course objectives
A brief survey of the history of the English language. Phonological development from Indo-European to Modern ERnglish. Old English texts, Old English grammar, Old English lexis. Middle texts and grammar. Influences on English: Latin, Scandinavian, French.

  • 1. From IndoEuropean to Old English. 2. Old English texts 1 to 6. 3. OE morphology and syntax. 4. From Old English to Modern English 5. Chaucer, about 150 lines 6. ME morphology and syntax 7. Shakespeare. 8. Influences on English
