Course objectives
The aim of the course is to extend and practice the acquired knowledge of the student in the field of linguistic studies and to aplly it in the analysis of situationally defined texts (register, style, genre). The grammatical means ate considered with regards to their role in the building of the textual structure and texture. The course further includes creating language teaching materials based on discourse strategies designed for upper grades of secondary school students.

  • 1. The notion of text. What is text analysis? 2. Standards of textuality. 3. Methods of analysis - DA and CDA. 4. The texture of a text. Cohesion and coherence. 5. The structure of a text. Text typology. 6. Text analysis - Text and non-text 7. Text analysis - defining the situational context. 8. Text analysis - Colony texts. 8. Text analysis - Genre and intertextuality. 9. Text analysis - coherence. 10. Text analysis - cohesion.
