Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach undergraduates how to work with the language material in a specified field of a language communication and allow them to apply their theoretical language knowledge in their communication practice. The undergraduates learn practical skills of expression in spoken and written utterances. The content of the course is to work with a text, i.e. undergraduates either produce their own texts or evaluate the other authors texts, they do their stylistic analysis, evaluation, corrections of imperfections aiming at creating a functional text.
Syllabus
  • 1 Stylistics of a text and speech culture. Centre of a stylistic mistake; language, stylistic and communication norms. 2 A convenient choice of an expression, linguistic accuracy, and suitability of stylistics. 3 Marked and unmarked expressions. Stylistic values of the means of expression and their changes/transformations. 4 The most frequent stylistic errors and imperfections in our communications and their analyses. 5 Stylistic and compositional editing written texts including their transformations into a different communication sphere. 6 Undergraduates own production of texts according to the choice of stylistic forms of their own, procedures and topics evaluation of the texts.
