Course objectives
This class is a brief repetition of the most important grammatical structures of modern German. It aims at refreshing and fostering the students knowledge acquired at high school. At the end of the class, the group should have reached a common level, which enables them to continue studies at the PdF. During lessons only the most important issues can be discussed. It is therefore very important, that students get quickly used to preparing and repeating the lessons at home.
Syllabus
  • In accordance to the textbook used in the “Practical Language Classes” the course covers selected chapters of em-Übungsgrammatik. The main issues are: - Questions (chapter 7.6, 7.7), - Place and direction (chapter 5.4, 5.5), - Plural and agreement (chapter 1.2), - Present perfect and word order (chapter 6.2), - Numbers and temporal adjuncts (chapter 3.7, 5.6, 5.7), - Pronominals and reflexive verbs (chapter 4.1, 6.9), - Prefixes (chapter 6.16, 6.17), - Modals (chapter 6.10, 6.11), It is necessary that students systematically repeat the most common irregular and modal verbs off-classes.

Classes are taught in intervals of two weeks. Students are required to attend classes (no more than two absences are tolerated). At the end of the term, there is a self-assessment test which students write in class, correct at home (using textbooks and grammars) and hand in after Christmas vacations (deadline in the winter term 2008: 12/1/2009).
