Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to practise the pronunciation of German vowels, diphthongs and consonants. The practice of German phonemes missing in Czech is stressed. Special attention is paid to German stress and also to German reduction of unstressed syllables. Seminar, credit: The students are supposed to read a short text and to master German pronunciation. Each student leads and complements his own phonetic lexicon. Students are supposed to show their phonetic lexicons to get the credit.

  • 1. Introduction to phonetics and phonology 2. Comparison of Czech and German phonetic system 3. German word and sentence stress 4. Work on vocabulary and grammar from the phonetic point of view

Assessment methods
Seminar, credit. The students read a short German text. Focus on right German pronunciation learnt in this semester. The students work with their own phonetic wordbook. Credit: The students show their own phonetic wordbook. Information to this subject will be given by consultation.
