Course objectives
The subject provides some additional information on linguistics, linguistic subjects and linguistic bohemistics. It provides to the students knowledge of the fundamental linguistics subjects and the terminology (phonetics and orthography, morphology, syntax, lexicology and word-formation and word-building) and pieces of knowledge on special fields (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics) and on the linguistic and language handbooks and journals, too. It is pressupossed that student is able after ending the course:
- to distinguish and describe the linguistic handbook
- to distinguish linguistic disciplines
- to explain relationships among linguistic disciplines
- to explain and analyse various opinions of the language and of the origin of language
Syllabus
  • 1. Language and linguistics.
  • 2. Function of language. Development of language and development of society. 3. Language and speech. Speech as a type of action. Speech acts.
  • 4. The structure of the language. Language levels and language elements (phoneme, morpheme,lexical units, sentence, clause).
  • Grammatical categories. Grammatical concepts.
  • 5. Linguistics and linguistic subjects. Fundamental subjects (phonetics and phonology, morphology, lexicology and word-formation, syntax). Terminology.
  • 6. Special linguistic subjects (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics). Methodology.
  • 7. Linguistics and special fields (semantics, pragmatics, philosophy, psychology).
  • 8. Some problems of development of language in the works of some authors autorů (U. Eco, Ivo T. Budil, J. Černý…). Developments of lettering.
  • 9. Linguistics journal. Linguistic handbooks (dictionaries, grammars).

Credit requirements: The student shall make out knowlege of the themen of the lecture during a short-time discussion in the end of the term.
Student "select by lot" two questions. There must be 70% corectness of the answers.
