Course objectives
Through selected topics, the seminar covers the most important works and personalities of the earliest Czech literature. The main stages (from the 9th to the 18the century) will be characterised, as well as their genre and style specificity. Deeper insights into the literary events will be offered through a detailed analysis and interpretation of artistic texts. Students will learn about the basic secondary literature which will enable them to complete and extend the gained knowledge.

  • Literature of the early Middle Ages (9th -13th century) Literature of the late Middle Ages (14th century) Literature of the Husite and anti-Husite movements (from the beginning to the 1470s) Humanism, renaissance and reformation (from the 1470s to the 1620s) Barogue and antireformation (from the 1620s to the 1720s)

Credit requirements: active participation in seminars (80% attendance), oral presentation dealing with an assigned topic, satisfactory seminar paper, oral examination.
