Course objectives
The B2-level course in English is designed to develop both productive and receptive language skills. Special emphasis is put on the ability to analyse and comprehend special texts related to social spheres. Active participation and discussion in regular consultations is required. Besides, the students work independently on special in-term assignments and get ready for the in-class presentation which is a part of the final examination.

  • Consultation 1: Course introduction + entrance test. Basic terminology. Home assignment. Consultation 2: Hot social issues of today. Immigration. Multiculturalism. Ethnic minorities. Consultation 3: Hot social issues of today (Addiction. Work with addicts. Prevention) Consultation 4: MS Power Point Presentations. Analysis of individual special texts related to the field of study. Reading analysis worksheets to be submitted to Odevzdavarna in due time. Consultation 5: MS Power Point Presentations (cont. from previous Consultation) FINAL Level B2 Test - preliminarily 8.1.2010 (Part I - vocabulary and grammar e-test in a computer room, Part II - English texts analysis and expressing opinion in writing.

Teaching methods
In-class discussions. Inductive and deductive methods. Projects (Presentation, 3 text analysis reading worksheets). Final test
Assessment methods
Examination requirements: 1) Active participation in the in-class discussions 2) Submitted in due time all in-term assignments (Homework 1, 2, 3) 3) In-class presentation (1/3 of the final mark) 4) Final e-test (pass limit = 70%) in a computer room. Vocabulary and grammar revision. English text analysis plus expressing opinion in writing.
