Course objectives
This course focuses on deepening what students already know in the area of English pronunciation. It also aims to prepare students for their complex exam - mainly in the area of listening and speaking.
Syllabus
  • 1. IPA and phonemes revision
  • 2. Transcription practice - transcription, reading from transcription
  • 3. "Problem" sounds practice: /th/, /v/ versus /w/, /ae/, /ng/, aspiration
  • 4. Weak forms
  • 5. Word stress: simple word stress, complex word stress, stress in compounds and phrases, noun stress versus verb stress
  • 6. Pronunciation activities prepared by Ss
  • 7. Sentence stress
  • 8. Linking
  • 9. Elision
  • 10. Assimilation - progressive, regressive
  • 11. Intonation
  • 12. Intonation continued
  • 13. Written credit test

Teaching methods
seminar listening, repeating, charal repetition, filling the gaps, trancribing phonemes into standard English and English into phonetic transcription, discussing, etc.

Requirements: Oral and written credit. Homework throughout the semester. Active participation in the lessons. Self-study.
