The Students are expected to be at the Intermediate level as the basic study material is a coursebook at this level.

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at intermediate level. The basic study material is coursebook New English File Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials.
At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at intermediate level and communicate in the language fluently.
Syllabus
  • The basic study material is the course book New English File INTERMEDIATE (Student’s book and Workbook), see Literature below. The syllabus includes Units 4 – 7, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students’ vocabulary.
  • 1. Introduction, revision and summary
  • 2. U 4A – 1st conditional, time clauses; Back to school, aged 35
  • 3. U 4B – 2nd conditional; In an ideal world…
  • 4. U 4C – Usually, used to; Still friends?
  • 5. U 5A – Quantifiers; Slow down, you move too fast
  • 6. U 5B – Articles; Same planet, different worlds
  • 7. U 5C – Gerunds and infinitives; Job swap
  • 8. U 6A – Reported speech; Love in the supermarket
  • 9. U 6B – Passive; See the film
  • 10. U 6C – Relative clauses; I need a hero
  • 11. U 7A – 3rd conditional; Can we make our own luck?
  • 12. U 7B – Question tags, indirect questions; Murder mysteries

Teaching methods
seminar the 4 skills practice (listening, reading, speaking, writing) individual as well as group work, discussions, etc.
Assessment methods
Requirements: assigned homework, i.e. prepare the corresponding section of the Unit (e.g. in section 1A read the text, study the vocabulary); active participation; 3 progress tests
Methods: discussions, group work activities, pair work activities, listening and reading tasks.
The lessons will be focused on speaking, listening and reading. Credit test in January: summary of Units 1 - 3
