Prerequisites
Knowledge of subjects "Contemporary Czech language 1" and "Contemporary Czech language 2" is pressupposed.

Course objectives
The students will acquiere fundamental knowledge on the contemporary Czech vocabulary and stylistic stratification of contemporary Czech. The students get acquainted with structure of Czech vocabulary, with criteria of classification (temporal criterion, stylistic criterion, origin…), with tendency of development of contemporary vocabulary, almost with impact of loanword on the development of Czech. The subjekt Contemporary Czech Language 3 presupposed knowledge of Contemporary Czech Language 1 and Contemporary Czech Language 2. After ending the course:
- student is able to identify the synonyms and antonyms in the text and he can use the synonyms and antonyms in texts;
- student is able to recognize multiple valued words in texts and he can use them correctly by writing texts.
- student know styles of contemporary Czech and he can create texts of various styles.
Recognition of the vocabulary and expression of words in contemporary Czech language enables to recognize the most important language styles and locustions, especially functional styles, arrangement, configuration of the language units and stylization of texts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Contemporary Czech vocabulary.
  • 2. Word and lexis. Compound lexik (compund terms, phraseology).
  • 3. Czech vocabulary of literary Czech language and of non-literary Czech language – dialects, professional speech, slang, argot.
  • 4. Czech vocabulary in stylish spere of contemporary Czech – neutral literary speech, colloquial speech, literary tushery speech, terms, publicism, poetical lexik.
  • 5. Emotional lexik; temporal charakter of lexik.
  • 6. Czech words and loanwords. Loanwords nowadays and earlier.
  • 7. Semantic relations in the vocabulary. Opposite words (antonyms), synonyms, hyperonyms, hyponyms.
  • 8. Homonyms, polyvalence.
  • 9. Proper nouns, type of proper nouns.
  • 10. Literary language, literary speech; stylish norms.
  • 11. Functional styles.
  • 12. Stylish factors and communication.
  • 13. Written and spoken texts, prepared texts and non-prepared (spontaneous) texts.
  • 14. Stylish charakter of language means and compositional units.
  • 15. Composition of texts – stylistic process, stylistic formations in the communication.

Assessment methods
Seminary course:
Ending: Exam
Exam requirements: There are two parts of that exam:
- written;
- oral.
Written part of exam: it will proves knowlege of the lexical phenomena in Czech orthography, ability of students to use the Czech vocabulary correct (students have to recognize phrases, locustions..., to use synonyms, opposite words/antonyms). The written examination includes 30 questions, to be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them correctly.
Oral part of exam: It icludes topics of the subjects SA4BP_SCJ1, SA4BP_SCJ2 and SA4BP_SCJ3 (see syllabi of those subjects).
