A pass in SZ7BP_1AB1 The intermediate student (Level B1) can understand the main ideas of texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including special discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with partners without strain for either party. Can produce an essay on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- Level B1 Course. Based on the common language learning skills, the student will learn and deepen some other academic skills (oral presentations, discussions, presenting and justifying the point, etc.) in English. The students will be assessed for their active participation in the course, oral and written assignments, as well as for final end-of-the-term tests level B1 (pass limit 70%) and their final specialized presentations (level B1)

- SZ7BP_2AB1 Cizí jazyk B - jazyk anglický Topic 5 Healthy x Unhealthy Lifestyle. Stress and its consequences. Texts about stress, coping with stress Study and academic skills - personal experience and reflection, expressing opinions, group discussion, opinion exchange Grammar revision – revision of tenses, 1st and 2nd conditionals Assignment – topic based vocabulary Topic 6 Current problems in Czech schools (bullying, truancy, addictions). Texts on school issues/problems Study and academic skills – essay writing skills, discussion, arguing the point, role-play Grammar revision - conditionals (revision), consequence of tenses – indirect speech, affirmative statements Assignment – essay (250 words) on one of the discussed issues, topic based vocabulary Topic 7 Current issues in the world in respect to the students’ specializations (environment, society including disorders, politics, economy, gender, race, cultural differences, ethnic minorities, immigration.) Texts about specialized issues chosen by students Study and academic skills - discussion, arguments based on experience, problem solving, reflections based on notes Grammar revision - consequence of tenses – indirect questions, infinitives Assignment – specialized text, reading comprehension sheet, topic based vocabulary Topic 8 My field of study. Conference presentations to fellow students with keywords and difficult vocabulary - board work. Advantages and disadvantages of teaching –discussion connected with presentations Study and academic skills -– presentation language and skills, building specialized vocabulary – presentations and professional language, power point presentation, poster presentation Grammar – relative pronouns/clauses Assignment – specialized presentation

- Examination requirements: 1)Active participation in seminars, 2) Attendance (2 absences admitted), 2) Careful preparation for each seminar 3) Oral presentation, 4)Written task, 5)Mid-term test -(grammar+ vocabulary, passmark 60%) 5) Final credit test (listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary, passmark - 70%) The student who has not completed continuous assessment and all the requirements (including active participation) during the particular semester can not be credited!
