Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gain basic knowledge about the problems of integration and inclusion in the current educational system in the Czech Republic and its comparison with selected educational systems abroad. In addition, the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a successful organization and teaching in the classroom integrating students with special educational needs.
Syllabus
  • Topics: 1. Historical development of approach towards people with disabilities 2. Definitions of terminology 3. System of education with focus on integrative education 4. Legislation and education of students with special needs 5. Individual educational plan - IEP 6. Material and organisational conditions for realization of integrative educationí 7. Educational strategies in integrative education 8. Cooperation with parents of a student with special needs in integrative settings 9. Strategies for independent learning Detailed information for each topic are given below.

Assessment methods
1. Elaborate model IEP for a student with special needs. 2. Write an essay on the topic “possibilities of integration and inclusion.“ 3. Prepare a lesson plan for a model integrative class using the acqured teaching strategies. 4. Present the needed material, technical, and organisational changes required for successful integration of a model student with special needs. 5. Prepare documents for interview with parents of a student with special needs. Written test.
