- Course objectives
- PhD. program students: In the French for Academic Purposes course the postgraduate students of Masaryk University Faculty of Education will consolidate their language skills, widen their knowledge of terminology related to their specialization, and learn certain academic skills (presentations, CV and letter of application writing, note-taking, summary writing, etc.) in French. The student will be able to analyze and interpret documents, articles and statements. The student will also grasp the skills of independent speaking (discussions and information exchanges).
- Syllabus
- The course focuses on the student’s professional specialization, with an emphasis on the topic of the dissertation, the problems of the discipline and the student’s professional fulfilment. 1. Reading professional texts in French related to the topic of the dissertation; in the extent of about 200 pages. 2. Presentation of the topic of the dissertation. 3. Discussions on the progress of the dissertation, the search of available literature, the outcomes and on the readings. 4. Written materials in French: professional curriculum vitae, a short survey of the readings, key terminology, a concise description of the topic of the dissertation.

- Teaching methods
- Individual preparation of the student. Consultations with the examiner before the examination. Analysis and interpretation of documents. Discussions, information exchanges and argumentation.
- Assessment methods
- As a prerequisite for the examination, the doctoral student shall present written documents (a structured curriculum vitae and the author’s summary of the dissertation). The examination is oral. During examination, the doctoral student shall demonstrate the competence to prepare a written statement, to read a text fluently and with comprehension, to follow a professional discussion with comprehension, to discuss issues concerning the given discipline, to analyze, to interpret and to argue. The examinee’s competence to speak is tested by means of a presentation in French focused on the problems of the given discipline, the examinee’s professional fulfilment and their prospects for the future.
