Course objectives
Having met the course requirements, students are able to fully interpret and analyse a literary work in the view of the trends of development and changes of individual genres in the literature for children and young adults. They are able to formulate and apply assessment criteria.
Syllabus
  • 1. Development, concepts and division into periods of Czech literature for children and youth. 2. Early stages of literature for youth in the context of the national literature and writing. 3. Basic questions of literature for children in the period of the National Revival. 4. Characterics of literature for youth in the second half of the 19th century, outstanding personalities. 5. Situation in literature for youth at the turn of the centuries and between the two world wars. 6. Literature during the occupation between the years 1945-1948. 7. Literature fot youth in the 1950s. 8. Metamorphosis of literature in the 1960s - prose and poetry. 9. Situation in literature for youth in the 1970s and 80s. 10. Literature for youth in the 1990s and at the beginning of the 21st century. New trends. 11. Genres in literature for youth, in connection with the stages of development with children readers.

Teaching methods
Theoretical preparation, methods of discussion, methods of induction and deduction.
Assessment methods
Type of completion: oral examination which tests students´ knowledge of the stages of development of Czech literature for children and young adults, trends in literary genres, knowledge of significant writers and their works, as well as the ability of interpretation and critical judgement. Students will be given a detailed list of examination topics (with a literary-historical outline of the literature for children and young adults) at the beginning of the term.

Information on completion of the course: Posluchač si předmět zapisuje jednou v průběhu celého studia (délka maximálně 4 semestry). Opakovaně si jej zapisuje pouze tehdy, nesložil-li v příslušném semestru zkoušku.
