A basic knowledge is presupposed to Central European history on the level of the final school exam.

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain the main topics of the history of the german speaking countries. The aim of the seminar is the get a complex and deepen view on one historical period. Besides the the specific information we will also have a view on original texts and excerpts from the professional literature. Thus, the seminar also emphasis on the topic of language work with professional literature. Each students elect a substantive focus and will make a short presentation (10 minutes, powepoint and hand out), and a written work on the same topic. Instructions to the presentation and the homework can be found in the IS.

  • The era of the Emperor Franz Joesph; various aspects of politics, economy, society, art and culture and everyday life. The list of topics can be found in the IS.
