Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to: - understand the basic terminology of the subject - explain the relationships and connections between particular aspects of the subject - use the information acquired in the subject to expand one’s own perspective of the issues studied - create a database of basic technical terms and their mutual relationships - present points of view well-argued on the basis of newly acquired knowledge.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction: Information about the course. Czech educational system – structure, educa-tional institutions, its focus and function, statistics. Selected topics of the educational system (e. g. family and school, special education in the Czech Republic, etc.)
  • 2) History of Czech Education: A short overview. Important educators and historical moments. J. A. Comenius. Selected topics of the educational system (e. g. development of Czech universities and teacher education)
  • 3) Current Topics of Education in the Czech Republic: Curriculum reform (Framework Education Programmes, School education programmes etc.), trends in teacher trainee education, inclusion, self-evaluation, teacher couching and mentoring, etc.
  • 4) Alternative School and Educational Models: Applications in current Czech education
  • 5) Educational Systems in Different Countries in comparison to the Czech system: Presenta-tions of students’ seminar work. Comparison of trends in Czech adult education with other developed countries (statistics of the EU, OECD, UNESCO).
  • 6) Educational Systems in Different Countries: Presentations of students’ seminar work. International studies of educational outcomes. Course summary – discussion about the course topics.
