- Course objectives
- The course offers the basic outline of the development of Russian literature from its beginnings up to the Natural School as an initial stage of Russian realism. At the end of the course the student should have the basic information about the Russian literature of this period on the basis of lectures, seminars and his/her own reading and be able to read and analyze selected literary texts of this period.
- Syllabus
- 1) The periodization of Russian literature, the main stages of its development and dominant literary artefacts (11th -17th centuries) 2) The beginnings of secularization and Europeization of Russian literature in the 17th century 4) The consequences of the reforms of Peter the Great in culture and literature 4) The birth of modern Russian literature 5) Modern Russian prose 6) The Rise of the Russian novel 7) Literary Streams in 18th-century Russian literature and at the beginning of the 19th century (Russian renaissance, neoclassicism, sentimentalism, preromanticism, romanticism)

- Written test. Reading of books from the recommanded and compulsory literature (list of required readings, which will be verified at the end of of the semester - see "Teaching Methods"). Writing a paper on literary theme (10 pg, a list of the used literature, a Russian abstract).
