- Course objectives
- The lectures, in the form of selected topics, cover the most important works and personalities of the earliest Czech literature. The main stages (from the 9th to the 18th century) will be characterised, as well as their genre and style specificity. Students will learn about the basic secondary literature which will enable them to complete and extend preceding lectures. Students will be able to identify and analyze basic genres of the earliest Czech literature.

- Literature of the early Middle Ages (9th -13th century) Literature of the late Middle Ages (14th century) Literature of the Husite and anti-Husite movements (from the beginning to the 1470s) Humanism, renaissance and reformation (from the 1470s to the 1620s) Barogue and antireformation (from the 1620s to the 1720s)

- Teaching methods
- Students will get an insight into basic trends of the earliest Czech literature, as well as into its genre specifics. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in the classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.

- Type of completion: credit. Credit requirements: active participation in lectures (min.80%), satisfactory results of a written credit test.
