- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should have overview of the contemporary children´s literature and should be able to understand the dynamics of literary process. Students should be given food for thought about their own teaching methods. Also their literary-critical competences necessary for suitable choice of book for collective reading should get more profound.
- Syllabus
- New literary trends in children´s literature from beginning of 21. century, following literary development after November 1989 Revolution (all in examples of specialized publishing houses Albatros, Argo, Baobab, Brio, Labyrint, Meandre, Paseka), volatile age group category in contemporary children´s literature 2. Literary-critical reflection of contemporary children´s literature, literary awards and polls in children´s literature 3. Transformations of picture books, blending of textual and pictorial part, development from book to an object or toy 4. Ambivalence of target audience of picture book 5. Present topics in contemporary literature for school age children (age 6 to 11), disturbance of taboo and stereotypes 6. Disabled heroes in literature for school age children (age 6 to 11) 7. Children´s literature and death 8. Development of lyrical poetry for school age children (age 6 to11) 9. Game and nonsense in contemporary children´s literature 10. Danger of simplicity in contemporary children´s literature

- Teaching methods
- Students will acquire forms of contemporary children´s literature, will analyse poetics of contemporary writers and should be able to identify style of great authors of given period. Students will develop all their literary and interpretative competences. The aim is to improve communication with literary works. Students will creatively use knowledge from lectures and own work with given literature. Students can regularly consult with teacher.
- Assessment methods
- Students will give a speech about own work, they will prove capability of critical thinking in common discussion. Teacher puts emphasis on ability to evaluate poetics, compare works within contemporary Czech and world literature and important is to defend stated arguments.
